No eviction drive in Burrabazar & College Street, clarifies KMC Commissioner
West Bengal Governor C. V. Ananda Bose on Friday expressed serious concern over recent incidents of violence in the state, stating that free, fair and transparent elections cannot be conducted in a violent atmosphere. Speaking to journalists at Lok Bhavan on Netaji Jayanti, the Governor said Bengal must be made violence-free under all circumstances to ensure the proper conduct of elections.
The birth anniversary of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose was observed with respect and dignity at Lok Bhavan, the Governor’s official residence in Kolkata. The occasion was marked by tributes and reflections on Netaji’s enduring legacy and contribution to the nation.
During the programme, the Governor paid floral tributes to Netaji’s portrait and announced that the northern entrance portico of Lok Bhavan has been renamed the “Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Portico.” He said Netaji’s role in uniting the country during the freedom struggle was historic and continues to inspire generations.
Responding to queries on the arrival of senior Enforcement Directorate officials in Kolkata, the Governor said he remains open to a meeting if the agency seeks one, adding that he is ready to engage whenever requested.
